Publetariat Vault Offers Free Listings Through 6/30/10

Online Database of Self-Published Books Provides Its Service Free of Charge for First Half of 2010

Jan. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- The Publetariat Vault, an online listing service which provides a searchable database of self-published books, has announced it will be offering its services free of charge for the first six months of 2010.

Founder April L. Hamilton says, “The Vault is an entirely new type of service in trade publishing. It’s not merely a ‘showcase’ site, but a genuine tool publishers, agents, producers, journalists and media professionals can use in seeking out commercially promising or newsworthy self-published books. Many people immediately equate the Vault with an online slush pile, but it’s not a valid comparison."

"Slush piles aren’t computer-searchable," she continues, "and the manuscripts in slush piles aren’t already out there in the marketplace with actual sales figures, reviews and buzz attached to them. In the Vault, finding a Young Adult novel with a female protagonist in her teens which features historical and romantic elements is as easy as checking off a few boxes on a search form and clicking the Search button. Clicking through to individual listings, searchers can immediately see how well each book is being received in the marketplace and how good a job the author is doing with self-promotion. And because the Vault is, and always will be, totally free for publishers, agents, producers, journalists and members of the media to use, there’s no risk to them in trying it out.”

“However,” she says, “getting the traditional world of trade publishing to understand what the Vault is first of all, and then to try it, is a challenge. We’ve made significant inroads but while we already have such searchers as NBC/Vivendi/Universal, Sourcebooks and Newman Communications registered, at the end of 2009 we realized if the Vault is to reach its full potential as a useful service for authors and searchers alike, it needs more exposure and time to grow."

"It wouldn’t be fair to charge authors for this early growth stage, but having a large quantity of quality listings is key. So we’ve made the decision of whether or not to list with the Vault entirely risk-free for self-published authors for the first six months of 2010. Having a Vault listing also entitles authors to free enrollment in the Vault University sister site, which provides monthly lessons in self-publishing and author platform/promotion, so what we’re offering is a win-win.”
