Google Nexus One Android Mobile Phone Review

Google unveiled its answer to the iPhone yesterday with the Nexus 1, and all indicators point to its charge to dominate the android and smart mobile phone markets. Ok, so lets find out just what is this mobile phone all about and if it does what it says on the tin.

Firstly, its name Nexus defines as a link or the means of connecting several things, also it covers the middle, centre or core of it. Guess it is no surprise that this is just what Google intend for the Nexus mobile phones and it obviously aims to be  the absolute centre of the mobile and smart phone universe without a doubt.

The launch day timing, slap bang at the start of the new decade and the first significant mobile phone release so far will have people buzzing everywhere, since the mobile phone represents just about everything that is mainstream and key to the current mobile apps market of the moment.

Without doubt this is a truly fantastic work of art and piece of genius engineering just as we would expect from such a big brand as Google. They have also cleverly raised the goalpost quite some way for the competitiors to meet the grade, great for the consumer as it leaves us open for a superb year of innovation and technological growth over the next few years.

Down to the nitty gritty.  It is ergonomically designed so it just slides easily into to your hand, displaying its soft round curves where other mobile cell phones have hard edges.
The Nexus One is also slightly narrower & thinner at 11.5mm than the iPhone or Motorola Milestone.

It ticks all the boxes & features of what a forward thinking android smart phone ought to be.
Its weight comes in at 130g which shows the Nexus a trifle lighter than its competitors, with Apple's iPhone coming in at around 136g and the other nearest competitor, the Motorola Milestone the heaviest at 170g.

Web and internet wise, one feature which has certainly captured the blogging world's eye is the addition of what they call live wallpapers, & these are also available on the Motorola Droid mobile phone. The Google Nexus One offers 10 as an initial selection of these animated images that can evolve throughout the day. Significantly, it offers brilliant noise cancelling, a sensor to stop you accidentally pressing buttons whilst the phone is in use up at your ear, it also has a highly effective speaker phone available.

It appears far more clearer & crisper than any other display screen currently available on the mobile phone market, as well as delivering an impressive touchscreen responsiveness of the iPhone & equally being speedy.  It has a superb 3.7 inch widescreen, AMOLED screen, & this delivers 720x480 pixels resolution.

With a brilliant mix of Android 2.1 sitting above the Snapdragon CPU which clocked in at a chilled 1GHz with 512Mb RAM & ROM, it does enable you to zap through opening up applications & then moving between them, even on EDGE, where 3G is currently unavailable at the moment.

It also provides an interesting Android application called Google Goggles, & this tries to recognize what is in photos & then slides off to generate search results relating to them. Google Goggles can currently recognize logos, wine, books, artwork, contact information, landmarks & places currently, with Google looking to add more variety of objects in the future including plants amongst others.

The durable case is made of Teflon-coated sides and back which are simultaneously rubbery to touch, yet durable and soft which makes it feel slightly sensuous, the phone that is definitely centre of attention in a crowd.
