This process supplies you with a complete digital representation of your part to be used for reverse engineering, quality inspection or at any point of a typical manufacturing cycle. For other applications the ability to generate high quality 3D models from scan data can be useful if modifications are required. For instace in character modeling, the pose of an original sculpture can be changed digitally and then the model prototyped for casting. For animation, an original object can be scanned, and animated digitally. The following diagram illustrates other uses of quality 3D scan data: 3D Scanning Applications Our scanning systems work by reading a reflected laser beam off of the original object. There is no physical contact made with the model, and the process is entirely non-destructive to the original. The scan system then builds a 3D model of the object. This model can be modified in a CAD-system or used for copying the exact shape, or rapid prototyped out as a one to one or scaled version of the original.
