Follow on Google News | Winter Games Updates, Medals to be Re-allocated – On the Scene in Lausanne; Golden 25 CountdownThis week’s IOC Executive Board meeting will provide a clearer picture of how the 2010 Olympics are progressing in the final two months before the Games. Around the Rings – will be on-the-scene at Olympic headquarters in Vidy.
By: Isia Reaves The Executive Board will also report on the 2012 London and Sochi 2014 Olympics. Updates on the 2010 Singapore and 2014 Innsbruck Youth Olympic Games also are on the agenda. ATR European editor Mark Bisson will provide up-to-date coverage of the Executive Board meeting at www.aroundtherings.com. The IOC is also expected to reallocate the gold medals from the drugs-marred performances by Marion Jones at the 2000 Sydney Games. “It's the last IOC meeting of the year, but the first for new EB members Craig Reedie of Great Britain and John Coates of Australia,” ATR editor Ed Hula said. “The reallocation of medals from the Sydney Olympics would seem to be the most dramatic development expected from this meeting. The medals, won by Marion Jones, but since stripped after drugs charges, will mark a close to this sad epilogue from Sydney - nearly 10 years later.” Around the Rings also will begin the countdown for its Golden 25 series when numbers 24 and 25 are revealed on December 20. Jockeying for a place on the list has nearly become an event itself, with sport leaders vying for one of the coveted spots. The Golden 25, now in its 14th year, is a compilation of the personalities who will play the greatest influence in 2010 for the business of the Olympics. The listing is the product of a matrix assembled by ATR that includes names, events and issues. Sebastian Coe, chairman of London 2012, topped the list last year, followed by President Barack Obama.
