PUNE’S BIGGEST SPORTING EXTRAVAGANZA – THE PDPL T20
The pride of Pune

•   India’s 1st ever T20 at taluka levels on the lines of IPL to be held in Pune from 13th to 20th November

Never before in the history of India would a taluka level cricket tournament have been held. Thanks to the initiative of Pune District Cricket Association (PDCA), the city will witness an exhilarating T20 cricket tournament, titled the AMIT PDPL (Pune District Premier League). The tournament is sponsored by AMIT ENTERPRIZE leading builder group of the city. And the fun has already begun! An exciting player auction process to be held on 4th November, will be followed by a grand launch ceremony on 10th November, besides an unforgettable opening ceremony on 13th November and the closing ceremony on 20th November. That’s not all – presentation ceremonies too will be held on international standards at the end of every match!

For the first time such high profile cricket is being played in the talukas, signifying efforts of deep penetration and also an unique initiative for scouring the cricket talent at grass root levels. Each franchisee will be required to take at least four players from rural area of Pune district. This number will increase with the development of rural cricket. The proceeds of the tournament will be mainly used for the purpose of development of cricket in rural area. “PDPL’s endeavor in organizing this tournament is to give a radical uplift to the taluka cricket, where rural players will get an opportunity to rub shoulders with city boys, which will boost their confidence as they will get a chance to showcase their talent. The motive is not only to give due credit to the talent of players at district and taluka levels, but also to give them good cricketing infrastructure and facilities which would help to enjoy the game in its true sense”, explains Ashish Desai, Secretary, PDPL. “Our vision is to have five grounds in the next five years in rural Pune”, says Ramesh Bondre, Chairman, PDCA who has put in relentless services for the last 40 years.

The chutzpah, ebullience and exuberance which IPL carried is sure to pour down into the PDPL also. In fact, all the players will try to mirror their performance with those they idolize and will play the match with the ultimate competitive spirit.

The first leg of the tournament will begin with the six franchisees competing for top players in an official Auction process to be held on 4th November at O Hotel, (the hospitality partner) likely to be conducted by a celebrity. Out of a pool of 60 players, 48 players will be selected by the six franchisees. Each franchisee would get exclusive identity on the basis of their respective catchment areas, thereby resulting in taluka wise fan following. 20% of the auction money of the players will go to the associated clubs to support club cricket. The league also offers flexibility to the franchisee to choose three players of their own choice from the district.

The six franchisees are :
•   Ambegaon Tigers
•   Baramati Powers
•   Camp Warriors
•   Parvati Peshwas
•   Chakan Royals
•   Kohinoor Pimpri Panthers

TOURNAMENT DETAILS :
The tournament will kick off on 13th November and will end on 20th November. Matches will be held at three venues – Deccan Gymkhana, Manchar and Baramati.

•   The players will be wearing designer sportswear.
•   Number of matches played will be 18 (with plans to make it 31 next year).
•   Number of franchisees would be 6 (with plans to have 8 next year).
•   Each team would play 5 matches, at the end of which, there will be 4 teams who will qualify for the semi-finals.
•   There will be 2 semi-finals and 1 final, making it a total of 18 matches.
•   The tournament rules would be as per ICC World Twenty20 regulations, while the match officials would be PDCA.
•   The attempt will be made to show matches live on local cable network.

Cash prizes to be won would be worth Rs.6.5 lakhs, with a prize of Rs.3 lakhs to the winning team, besides other attractive prizes, including creatively designed trophies, are in the offing. MAN OF THE SERIES WILL BE AWARDED WITH A HONDA MOTORCYCLE.

PDPL like the original IPL is meant to be a win-win situation for everyone involved, whether it’s the players, the clubs who are participating or the business houses. The idea is to grow it year after year, for five years, so that the franchisee who has bought a team today, owns an asset with significant growth potential and can benefit from substantial revenues from various sources as the league develops. The franchisee can give out a part of, or full stake in his team, later, at a much higher price. The revenue sharing model of PDPL is quite unique in a sense that the existing franchise gets some share of additional revenue generated from addition of the franchisee. This model also offers share of revenue out of sponsorship to the franchisee after fifth year onwards.

PDPL’s HUGE CSR ACTIVITIES – ‘RACE AGAINST AIDS’ & ‘FREE VACCINATIONS’ :
The entire initiative of this tournament is not only to promote grass root level cricket but also to contribute towards the society for a social cause. PDPL would be a platform to spread awareness about AIDS as is being done by ICC (International Cricket Council). This would be achieved by conducting on ground AIDS awareness campaigns, in tribal and rural areas, where celebrities would be involved. The programs will be conducted by TAAL famous NGO working for HIV and our CSR partner. That’s not all – in addition, vaccination would also be provided free of cost to the rural children.
Our partners: Hotel O for hospitality, Radio Mirchi - radio partner.

The PDPL is a perfect blend of sport, entertainment and charity … and this is only the beginning ….
