Nov. 5, 2009 - PRLog -- FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA—The Gamers’ Syndicate, LLC (“GSLLC”), announced today that they will hold an auction to benefit the fight for a cure to diabetes.  The auction will take place at GSLLC’s inaugural synDCon, an annual table-top gaming convention, to be held at the Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Hotel & Executive Meeting Center in Rockville, Maryland from February 12, 2010, to February 15, 2010.

Giving Back to the Community

“My 8-year-old niece, Carol Ann, was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes two years ago, and since then her mother -- my sister -- and I have become active in raising awareness of the disease and contributing time and talent to help find a cure,” said Robert E. Bodine, Esq., an attorney representing GSLLC.  “As volunteers for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, we have connected to other diabetes advocates and organizers, including Diabetic Kid’z 4 L.I.F.E. and Gaming & Diabetes.  Thanks to the generosity of the Gamers’ Syndicate, these organizations will have complimentary presences at synDCon 2010 and will host seminars during the convention.”  Mr. Bodine added that the seminars would focus on healthy gaming for diabetic gamers, providing advice on how to monitor your diet under sometimes diabetic-unfriendly gaming conditions.  Additionally, Rita Meadows, MSN, FNP-BC, JDRF Government Advocacy Leader and Nurse Practitioner from Georgetown, Delaware will be present during the convention to provide diabetes education and offer guidance to those interested in becoming a government advocate for Type I Diabetes research.

Mr. Bodine continued, “Unfortunately, diabetes is affecting a greater number of people, many of whom will be in attendance.  Because of our desire to find a cure for these individuals, we’ll be hosting some fund-raising events.  First, we’ll be auctioning off items contributed by our vendors.  Second, Rob Hobart, organizer of the Heroes of Rogukan living campaign under the Legend of the Five Rings system, has approved the distribution of special certifications for that campaign to be auctioned off to benefit the charities.  We’re hopeful that we’ll see significant fundraising for these groups.”

Other Vendors

In addition to the charitable groups, GSLLC announced having reached an agreement with two other vendors.  “One of our local gaming stores, the Game Parlor, with locations in Woodbridge and Chantilly, Virginia, has agreed to have a presence at synDCon 2010.  We’ve also secured a presence by a game publisher, Green Ronin, makers of various role-playing games such as Mutants & Masterminds, the ENnie award-winning a Song of Ice & Fire, and the soon-to-be released Dragon Age.  Representing Green Ronin will be Washington, DC’s own Hal Mangold (also of Atomic Overmind Press).  These represent exciting news items, because now we can assure our attendees that they’ll be able to get whatever gaming accessories they need on site, and will also be able to play-test games from a highly-regarded creative force in the industry.”

Other Events

In addition to the mini-campaign and seminars already announced last month, Mr. Bodine provided some more examples of events to be offered.  “The popular Dungeon Delve will be offered at synDCon, which will be the basis of a competition between the in-game regions of Aglarond – covering the southeastern United States – and Cormyr – covering the northeastern United States.  Players will be representing their regions, and the region that garners the best winning percentage will win the first annual synDClashSM award, along with a year’s worth of bragging rights.”  Despite the competition, Mr. Bodine assures that the mood will remain jovial.  “Among other delves, the competition will include the Fool’s Grove Delve.  This was the adventure released on April Fools’ Day by Wizards of the Coast, which includes some of the most ridiculous creatures ever devised during the history of Dungeons & Dragons.  It should be a welcome release from sometimes-intense gaming.”  Mr. Bodine added that the special Heroes of Rogukan Social LARP (live action role play) event has been approved for synDCon.  This LARP is currently held at only three other conventions nationwide.
