Nov. 3, 2009 - PRLog -- Two dreaded militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed after being mauled by a bear last night at Mahore-Kulgam border. Slain militants hailed from Mahore area of Reasi district.

This is for the first time that two top militants, operating in Reasi district for last six to 10 years, have been killed by a wild animal in the forests.

Confirming the killing of two ultras by a bear at Damhal Hanjipora, the border of Mahore-Kulgam, official sources identified them as Mohammad Amin alias Kaisar son of Abdul Gaffar, a resident of Neoch, Mahore and Bashir Ahmed alias Saifullah son of Jamal Din R/o Khor, Mahore.

Bodies of both militants, who had been badly mauled by a bear, were reported to have been recovered by police and security agencies and were likely to be handed over to their family members. Flesh on the bodies of militants had been teared which confirmed their killing by a wild animal.

Sources said the militants appeared to have been attacked by the bear in a dhok. They were killed before they could pick up their weapons and open firing on the wild animal. Both the militants were in possession of AK rifles loaded with ammunition besides grenades and some other items, which have been seized from near their bodies.

This is reported to be the rare incident wherein the two dreaded militants of LeT outfit, who had let loose a reign of terror in Reasi district for last several years, have been killed by a wild animal in the forest area.

A Lashkar message, intercepted by police and security agencies, has also confirmed the killing of the outfit’s two top cadre by a bear. According to sources, the killing of militants by a wild animal was first observed by a group of shepherds, who sounded police.

Shepherds have also confirmed that a bear was active in the forests.

Mohammad Amin alias Kaisar was an ‘A’ category militant of the Lashkar outfit and was active in militancy since 1999 while Bashir Ahmed alias Saifullah was operating since 2003. Both had their area of operation spread along Gool-Mahore-Gulabgarh area in Reasi and Ramban districts. They were involved in a series of militant activities in the two districts, sources said, adding that Kaisar was wanted in a number of FIRs registered at different police stations of Reasi and Ramban.

Kaisar and Saifullah had recently crossed over to Damhal Hanjipora forests in Kulgam district from Mahore following stepped-up pressure on militants maintained by Army and police during which nearly 20 top militants of Lashkar and Hizbul Mujahideen outfits have been killed.

"Security forces and police had tightened noose over the cadre of Lashkar and Hizbul and that was why Kaisar and Saifullah crossed over to Damhal Hanjipora", sources said and disclosed that earlier also when troops maintained pressure over militants in Mahore they used to cross over to Kulgam for a brief period only to return later.

Out of 20 militants of the two outfits killed by Army and police in Reasi district, half a dozen were Pakistanis. Still, 14 to 16 militants of LeT and HM were still active in Mahore-Gool-Gulabgarh belt. Two of them were Pakistanis.
