CHICAGO, IL (OCTOBER 15, 2009) – The American Lung Association in Greater Chicago’s Fight For Air Climb is now accepting registrations for their 2010 event to promote healthy air and lungs.  Athletes and those with a competitive spirit can sign up for individual and team stairclimb challenges, held at Oakbrook Terrace’s Oakbrook Terrace Tower on February 14, 2010, at www.fightforairclimb.org.

“Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of men and women in the United States,” explains Harold Wimmer, President & CEO of the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago. “We hope that this event will create a greater awareness of the disease’s prevalence and raise the valuable funds needed to help our community prevent and fight lung cancer and other lung diseases.”

The Fight for Air Climb in Oakbrook Terrace brings the excitement of stairclimb competitions to the suburbs largest tower.  As the climb that started them all, the 31 floor trek to the top of the Oakbrook Terrace Tower was the first climb event to debut in Illinois and offers athletes the chance to climb the tower not once, not twice, but three times for a total of 93 floors.  Participants can expect to see overwhelming community support from teams of all types including more than 20 surrounding fire and police departments.

“Last year’s event raised over $90,000 to help Greater Chicago residents fight the diseases and poisons that harm the lungs of our families and communities,” says Wimmer.  “We hope to raise over $100,000 this year to continue that effort.”

Now in its second century, the American Lung Association is the leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.  With the generous support of donors, the American Lung Association is “Fighting for Air” through research, education and advocacy.
