Sept. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- SAN JOSE, CA  -- The Solar Training Institute (STI), a leading provider of accelerated solar training programs, today announced a new hands-on training course in PV design in San Jose on October 12-16.  This new program will train skilled technical workers, such as electrical and mechanical engineers, electrical contractors and solar industry professionals who want to start, transition or advance their careers. Students will become proficient in the fundamentals to properly design both residential and commercial grid-tied solar PV (photovoltaic) systems. STI will continue its push to lead in the education of green industry workers and help meet the high demand for an increasing pool of trained and skilled solar design and installation technicians.

The course curriculum was developed in partnership with Natron Resources, a commercial Solar Design firm based in Oakland, CA and two of its veteran solar design professionals, Jeff Ansley, PE and President, and Michael Stevens, Senior Project Manager. Together, with their 35 years of collective solar experience and over 10MW of solar installations across the world, they will also be the lead instructors. “I am pleased to be working with STI to develop and deliver this outstanding course and will offer people more opportunities to get into the solar industry, “says Jeff Ansley. “So many great people were there for me 15 years ago when I started out, and others were there along my journey in the industry.  It’s great to be in a position to pass on knowledge and skills to the next generation of system designers.”

Students attending the five-day Solar PV System Design course will become knowledgeable in the design of Photovoltaic and grid-tie systems.  They will learn how to size and draft a PV system including equipment and component selection, wire sizing, and roof load calculations.  The accelerated 40-hour course will also provide education on permitting, fire and structural code, and submitting plan sets to city building departments.

STI will launch the first class in its Silicon Valley headquarters at 1430 Koll Circle, Suite 105 in San Jose on October 12 – 16. The company will follow up in November 2009 with its aggressive expansion by offering courses in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Ana and San Diego.
