| Need Advice on the Human Condition? Ask Socrates Now!Socrates enjoys reflecting on the nature of the human condition & the longing of the human spirit because today, more than ever, man must determine through introspection & self-examination what type of life he wants to live.
By: Ask Socrates Now! What has happened to virtue and justice? These ideals were examined at length in the dialogues of my student Plato, where I discussed doing one's duty and committing unethical acts out of ignorance. Why does it seem as if people in the modern era care less about these issues than we in Ancient Greece did more than two millennia ago? I can certainly vouch for the fact that life is much different today than it was back then, but surely the problems of life are similar, if not the same. Although I lived to the ripe old age of 70, many of my friends did not. You, of the 3rd millennium, are blessed with a life expectancy that we of a past age could have only dreamed. One might logically conclude that life, in general, would be of a much higher quality today than ever before. (After all, you have the benefit of learning from the mistakes of civilizations and eras long past) But is this the case? If not, why not? Ask yourself these questions. And if you refuse to ask, then the answers are all the more important. My friends, the point I am humbly trying to make is that it is imperative that you take advantage of the wonderful benefits you have been accorded. Think about your life, your life's purpose, and most importantly, your innermost goals and dreams. If you don't forge a suitable path through which to lead your life, who will? If you don't seize life by the horns and wrestle it to the ground, who should? If you don't contemplate what it all means to be living as a human being in the universe, who must? While you ponder the many questions associated with life & the human condition, I hope my blog can be of some assistance. (Just think of each entry as kind words whispered into your ear) It will be updated regularly with various thoughts on various topics multiple times per week. Here's what you can expect to find & not find in my blog: What You Will NOT Find: -Gossip about Britney Spears or The Jonas Brothers -Pictures of scantily clad women -Terms like 'omg' or 'pwned' -Articles on Warcraft or Street Fighter -Vicious, profanity-laced diatribes -And unfortunately you will not find my blog to be hip & full of pizazz What You WILL Find: -Passing thoughts on the nature of the human condition and what makes us, as human beings, uniquely human -Occasional short works of fiction because 'showing' is sometimes more effective than 'telling' -Sketches on noteworthy people and how they've enriched our understanding of the human experience -A passionate defense of the brotherhood of man and our common destiny -Informal discourses on the struggle that binds us together as human beings Remember: "The unexamined life is not worth living." # # # Providing answers on the nature of the human condition and the longing of the human spirit, from the perspective of Socrates himself.
