Comstock '09 Bash Will Offer Local Food, Live Music, And Freestyle Motocross

Spearia Inc. to host first annual festival to celebrate Comstock Park and grand opening

Sept. 9, 2009 - PRLog -- COMSTOCK PARK, MICH – Former freestyle motocross professional, Danny Beckett, CEO and President of Spearia Inc. created the concept of Comstock ’09 that will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 1:00pm to 10:00pm as a way to celebrate the new home of their web design and marketing firm in Comstock Park and their entry into the community.

“It is about building relationships and helping people out,” said Danny Beckett. “We want to connect with our neighbors, the city and remind everyone that if we help each other out we will get through these hard times and as well as just have fun together!”

Spearia Inc. along with Beckett portrays a hip, young, entrepreneurial spirit and way of doing business. Their $500,000 warehouse remodel of the old CP Foods building on West River Drive seems like an unusual location for Beckett, and the young talented Spearia team. More likely to relocate to a new, trendy downtown warehouse, Beckett, 25-year-old marketing guru with tattooed arms, spiked hair and a van he drives around that says, “Face it, your website sucks,” made the choice to move into downtown Comstock Park. Beckett believes Comstock Park is an area with growth potential.

“Comstock Park is such a community, a small town that doesn’t have that “big city attitude”. I chose to build my business in Comstock Park because I want to work in a community that has space to grow in and an opportunity to build relationships. At the end of the day, it is about creativity and relationships,” continues Danny. “W e want to celebrate it with Comstock ’09, and help everyone else recognize this great place and its potential.”

Comstock ’09 will host various events for every age. Main event and entertainment will focus on the freestyle motocross lead by Team Faith riders and Kevin Johnson, 2008 X Games Gold Medalist. A large freestyle motocross course – the length of two football fields, filled with dirt and jumps will be created in Fifth Third Ballpark’s parking lot. A small fee of $10/Adults and $5/kids 13 and under will be charged at the door, but pre-sale tickets are currently being sold at www.comstock09.com for $8/Adults and $4/kids 13 and under.

Despite the ticket costs for the freestyle motocross, the rest of Comstock ’09 is free. Four local bands will play throughout the event with no admission costs and access to food and beer for purchase. Bands include: Delilah and The Lost Boys, The Concussions, Nobody’s Business and Funktion.

Food vendors include: The Gilmore Collection, Biggby Coffee, GR Popcorn, Jimmy’s Ribs and The Corner Bar. A contest hosted by The Corner Bar will be challenge 15 people to eat as many hot dogs as possible – upholding their infamous hot dog eating tradition. The Corner Bar’s newest reigning champion, Balinda Gould, who ate 43 hot dogs in 2005 will help judge the contest.  Belinda has dethroned Sharon VanDuinen, the former Sharon Scholten who held the spot as queen for 23 years with 42 ½ hot dogs.

A Kids Park will take place in the city park with free admission. Kids will have a chance to ride their own bikes with Kevin Johnson and Team Faith from Fifth Third Ballpark to the city park by way of the White Pine Trail where autographs will be signed. The Kids Park will also offer face painting, a moon walk, an appearance by “Crash” from The West Michigan Whitecaps and snacks for purchase.

A few of Comstock ’09 sponsors include The Gilmore Collection, The West Michigan Whitecaps and The Grand Rapids Press. With thousands expected, Comstock ’09 will provide attendees with a fun, affordable way to enjoy a Saturday with family, friends and a community.
