Even in 2009, running a good business involves many of the same principles that worked back in 1909.  You treat your customers right, provide a great service at a great value, and people will usually talk about it.  But in 2009, we have this great tool called the Internet: always on, always there, and always growing.

In the past, having a website meant either having someone in-house to manage your site, or paying a third party to keep it current. Neither solution is a good one due to the costs (and headaches) involved, and many small businesses choose to ignore the web and stick to what they know. As technology has progressed, it is now possible to get a completely custom website and manage it entirely on your own.

As consumers have shifted their preference from the phone book to the Internet, the effects of not having a website or having a website that is out-of-date will make your company look like it is behind the times. Even if your site contains little more than basic information and contact details, you need a website because your customers expect you to have one. In other words, avoiding the web or having a website that doesn't do your business justice is a disastrous mistake.
