Sept. 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Los Angeles, CA – KC Tees (www.KCTees.com) - a line of stylish and inspiration graphic tees - announced the launch of their new “Hope” tee today, designed to support suicide prevention efforts.  The launch of the “Hope” tee corresponds with National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, which kicks off on September 6th.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, suicide is the fourth leading cause of death for adults between the ages of 18 and 65 years in the United States, with more than 33,000 suicides each year. Worldwide, suicide claims more than 1 million lives each year and ranks among the top three leading causes of death among those aged 15-44 years.

Many families who have experienced this tragedy try to hide it from their friends, loved ones and community.  Sadly, many survivors of suicide loss never talk about it in open conversation.  It is for this reason Karen Crawford, CEO & Founder of KC Tees, launched the “Hope” tee – to help spread awareness of suicide, and its prevention across communities all over the world.

"After I experienced the heartbreaking loss of a young family member who tragically took his own life, its imperative to raise awareness about this global health problem,” said Karen Crawford, CEO & Founder, KC Tees.  “People should realize that suicide is the result of mental illness and with more awareness, understanding and treatment, suicide can be prevented. My hope is that anyone who’s been touched by suicide in some capacity will help support this effort.”

KC Tees will be donating 50 percent from every “Hope” tee sold to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.

“We are delighted that KC Tees has chosen our foundation to be the recipient of the proceeds from the sale of their “Hope” tees,” said Robert Gebbia, executive director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  “Feeling hopeless is a major risk factor for suicide.  We hope the message from this tee will convey to those struggling to know that someone cares and that help is available.”
