Red Stair Gallery Is Hidden Gem In The Valley

Sept. 1, 2009 - PRLog -- LONGMEADOW, MASS. – Nestled behind Bay Path College and deep inside of Longmeadow is a hidden treasure – Red Stair Gallery. Up and beyond the first and second floor, winding past the “red stairs” is the intimate studio and creative haven of artist Donald E. Munson.
   This fall, he will officially kick off the gallery’s opening with the launching of “Small Works,” an exhibit featuring original works of art by Munson and established artists Stanislaw Fernandes, Larry Schwinger, Robert Dent, Lillian Dodson, Lorna Ritz and others. The show will feature art ranging in size from 4 inches by 6 inches to 18 inches by 22 inches, varying from $150 to $750.
   “Red Stair Gallery is a long time vision of bringing a retail and online vehicle to the general public to remove the myths of affordable fine art ownership for the home and office,” Munson said. “The art is high-end, but reasonably priced for accessibility. Whether you're a major collector or a person wanting to own an original piece of art, it caters to all.”
   Munson’s work has an enormous range that doesn't necessarily fit into a label. The work is modern, graphic and symbolic, creating a tension between abstraction and realism.
   He recently closed the chapter on an impressive commercial career that boasts designing book jackets and creative leadership at publishing houses such as Random House, being a recipient of the prestigious Chesley Award and presiding as Senior Account Executive at the Hartford Courant. His previous client list includes Readers Digest, Money Magazine and set painting for the Broadway show "Over Here." Red Stair is an opportunity for him to attack his passion full-time.
   “Art is a living thing. Each image is a snapshot of how I see the world. Art comments on everything and how we all see it.  It reflects a true image of the past and living presence with an eye to the future.  It records so much,” Munson said.
