Aug. 18, 2009 - PRLog -- Stranded in the Motor City a new, raw, and brutally honest documentary strikes at the core of humanity and is currently gearing up to premiere in major cities across the United States. Produced by Rich King Entertainment Group, the film travels through the lives of the Barnes family, who have, in a sense, been stranded by poverty, their own choices, and life itself.

The centerpiece of the documentary, Andrelia Barnes-Wilson, started life with infinite potential, graduating high school at age fifteen. Then, life struck with a violent blow, as her husband, and the father of her four young boys was brutally murdered in the streets of Detroit. This, along withnumerous other tragedies reshaped her life, leading her to choose a path of drugs and alcohol – a change of fate that eventually caused her to slip into a coma that lasted fifteen years.

The film is juxtaposed with Andrelia's middle child, Dwayne Barnes, who narrates, writes and directs the documentary, decision at the age of 19, to leave his brutal reality of Detroit to pursue his dream of becoming an actor, and entertainer in Hollywood – two weeks before his mother slips into a coma.

According to Barnes, the film offers audiences a chance to look at themselves and at others with more compassion. “This is a great story that people across the world will understand on a gut level and be inspired by the fearlessness and courage that my family has portrayed by telling their story, their pain and their lives. It offers us a chance to put the world under a microscope so that we can see it clearly and do something about it.”

Nominated Best Actor for an NAACP Theater Award, Dwayne’s success in numerous television shows and movies including CSI, Without a Trace, Dark Blue, Cold Case, Menace II Society (the infamous crackhead), The Flock with Richard Gere and Claire Danes, etc., draws awareness of how one’s positive choice to venture out of a unfortunate nest can lead to extraordinary results.

“Stranded in the Motor City powerfully exposes us to the wisdom that it's the choices that we make,”said Barnes, “regardless of the environment – that decides our destiny. I want people to walk away with the idea that everything is a choice, and that pain and tragedy happens, but the way you deal with it is a choice that can propel you forward or strand you.”
