Spec Fic Author De La Torre Looks Forward to Future Projects

The author of the acclaimed Rise of the Ancients series JC De La Torre talks about his latest release and future projects

Aug. 6, 2009 - PRLog -- Speculative Fiction author JC De La Torre sat down with the DLT Atlantis Speculations Newsletter for an exclusive interview. In this release is a portion of that interview. Fans can subscribe to the newsletter via the author's website.

Spec: How has the response been to Annuna (Rise of the Ancients Annuna was released on July 31st) ?

De La Torre:
Very positive. I've received more emails from fans than I ever have. Usually they trickle in over time but a day or two after the release my email box was filled with them. I was stunned. There's been requests for the book in various languages. Reviews have been great. Its exciting.

Spec: How have the sales been??

De La Torre:
We won't get official numbers until the end of the month but from indications its been a little slower than Ancient Rising. It's disappointing but you have to understand these are difficult times we live in.

Spec: One lucky fan has a chance to win an Amazon Kindle, correct?

De La Torre:
Indeed, we're real excited about that, especially with Annuna also available on Kindle. If they purchase the book before August 22nd, they can send an email to contest@DLTAtlantispub.com and enter the contest to win the amazing device.

Spec: Do you have one?

De La Torre:
No, not yet but I do plan on getting one for Christmas.

Spec: Will Annuna and Ancient Rising be available in other languages and formats?

De La Torre:
I retain all of those rights but thus far no international publishers have come forward. I'm eagerly seeking them as it appears the demand is there. I'm also looking for a good e-publisher to release the books on e-book. While they're in kindle via DLT Atlanits publishing, I'm looking to establish a relationship with a true e-publisher for these and future projects.

Spec: Speaking of Future Projects, what's in store for JC De La Torre?

De La Torre:
Well, I'm going to finish off the podiobook version of Ancient Rising...

Spec: That's free on podiobooks.com is it not?

De La Torre:
Yes. People can subscribe to it and as new episodes appear they'll be notified. They just have to go to podiobooks.com

Spec: What else?

De La Torre:
Well, its been exhausting promoting Annuna and now that its out there for public consumption I think I might take a short break.

Spec: Not a three year break?

De La Torre:
No, no, definitely not. That was ridiculous. No, I'm going to take about a month off, then finish up my story collection, Welcome to my Nightmares.

Spec: Tell us about Welcome to my nightmares. What kind of stories will we see there?

De La Torre:
There's something for everyone. There's going to be a space opera story, vampire, horror, ghost stories, time travel, fantasy, alternate reality, I just about touch on every sub genre in speculative fiction. I even will have one that may cause a little controversy called Killing Osama.

Spec: Oh wow, about the terrorist?

De La Torre:
Let's just say its not him specifically but the character was definitely inspired by him.

Spec: When can we expect the collection?

De La Torre:
Well, the rights are available so we're going to be seeking a publisher for the work. Its possible it may be published by DLT Atlantis later in the year but nothing has been signed yet. I'm hoping to have it out by Christmas time - but that all depends on who I sign with. I will also be submitting the stories to the typical magazine and short form markets so you should see them out there soon enough.

Spec: Anything else coming?

De La Torre:
There's my time travel story, Continuum Force, which should be out next year. There will be a prequel for the novel included in Nightmares. It's sort of like Stargate meets The Time Machine. I know everyone is like, 'Oh Great, another time travel story' but I plan on making this deep in historic content. I'm doing my research and you're going to love the authenticity I put into this series.

Spec: Along with the action packed, fast paced style?

De La Torre:
Of course! Not to mention the mysterious clues and discoveries that were prevalent in the Rise of the Ancients series.

As the interview continues, De La Torre discusses the future of the Rise of the Ancients saga, writing speculative fiction, and what goes in to promoting works.
