Canberra, Australia – 27 July, 2009

The Federal Government intends to invest over a billion dollars in the next year to acquire and upgrade armoured vehicles for the Australian Army - enhancing the capabilities and lethality of the fleet.

A Defence white paper was released earlier this year outlining a long term Government investment of more than $110 billion dollars over the next decade into defence capabilities and plans to meet the future demands of Mobility, Communication, Protection, and Fire Power, the 4 integral elements for survivability on the front line.

The Defence Capability Plan (DCP) 2009 released this month will strengthen the partnership between Defence and defence industries to secure Australia’s strategic future. The paper contains over $60 billion of projects and demonstrates the Government’s commitment to building Force 2030.

Armoured Vehicles Australia will be addressing the two biggest challenges in the development and procurement of armoured vehicles: striking a balance between survivability, mobility and balancing the significant investment required in new vehicles and systems, while continuing to upgrade existing fleets.

The event will feature Australian and international experts, providing comprehensive updates in addressing the lethality, survivability and interoperability of legacy fleets.
