(WCM) President the Honorable Ron Davis, Mayor of Prichard, AL, has announced that the WCM voted by Board Meeting Conference Call on July 15, 2009 to unanimously support the confirmation of the Honorable Judge Sonia Maria Sotomayor to the Supreme Court of the United States of America. The WCM, in making its decision was pleased to be joined in the conference call by the Honorable Judge Joyce London Alexander Ford, retired US Federal Judge and Past-President of the National Bar Association (NBA) Judicial Council, who related to the Mayors that “The NBA has notified both Chairman Patrick Leahy, of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Honorable Jeff Session, Ranking member, that the NBA evaluation of Judge Sotomayor through its judicial selection committee rated Judge Sotomayor to be well qualified.” According to the WCM Founder Johnny Ford, “The WCM is pleased that both our Conference and the NBA are speaking up for Judge Sotomayor during the hearing period. We especially wish to relay this message to Senator Jeff Sessions, of Alabama, because we have full support of many Mayors, public elected officials, Lawyers, and Judges within his home state of Alabama.” The WCM Board Members went on to adopt two additional resolutions: 1. Supporting President Obama’s nomination for Dr.. Regina Benjamin, from Bayou La Batre, for the US Surgeon General. WCM President Davis went on to state, “I personally know how hard Dr. Benjamin worked to help save lives and provide health care during the Hurricane Katrina incident, because she is from the Prichard/Mobile, AL area. I’m convinced she will do the same for the nation.” 2. Supporting the President’s effort to reform health care in America, so that health care will be made affordable and accessible to the more Americans.
