June 17, 2009 - PRLog -- Can the power of antioxidants… really bring out that youthful healthy glow in you…?

         In the main… i suppose most want to grow old… gracefully… Some will even go under the knife to get that youthful look… while others opt for a more natural way to maintain that healthy glow.
         
The way to make peace with age… could be found in the types of foods that you and i eat and the ‘miracle’ ingredients they contain.

         These hidden ‘miracles’ are called antioxidants…  they’ve graced the pages of glossy magazines… medical journals… and every niche product from supplement pills to hand creams.

         But what are antioxidants and what can they do to keep you looking your very best?

         You and i are told by scientists… pharmaceutical fat-cats… (and celebs ‘in the know…’) that antioxidants are substances that fight the inevitable aging process that goes on in our bodies…

we’re also told…

antioxidants are not produced by the body…

so... to get the benefit of these power-packed substances you must ingest them…

so let me just back track a little… and say… fundamentally… your body continually replenishes its cells through a process called cellular metabolism… your body produces more energy… more cells… and repairs any damage.

          The by-product of cellular metabolism is unstable molecules called free radicals… free radicals are molecules that damage your body… they are unstable because they are missing an electron. To get another one and become stable… free radicals will steal electrons from cells…  
         
that theft then damages the cells in a variety of ways…  the results are both visible   and  invisible changes to your skin and body.

         Thinner skin… wrinkles and brittle bones can often become some of the manifesting symptoms…  the more free radicals we encounter… the greater the damage that can be done.

         So… how best can you ‘ingest’ these much-touted antioxidants?  

Fruits and vegetables contain natural sources of antioxidants… some powerful examples include:
* Vitamin C
* Vitamin A
* Vitamin E
* Lutein
* Lycopene
* Beta-carotene

         
These natural ‘miracle like substances’ are also found in nuts… legumes… cold-water fish… seafood and red meat…  

         So… a varied diet of fruits… vegetables… and the foods just named will increase the amount of antioxidants in your system and help reduce/reverse thinner skin… wrinkles… brittle bones and associated diseases…
