Game, set and match for ‘Tallented’ chess players

June 9, 2009 - PRLog -- The league was set up by Maggie Hudspeth, a parent at Winthorpe Primary School, who said:
“I am delighted that Tallents offered to sponsor the Newark Chess League. The children enjoy playing the game so much and the sponsorship will allow us to hold regular free chess tutorials which any local primary schoolchild can attend.”

Said Frances Kelly, Senior Partner at Tallents:

“The game of chess spans any age group and is inclusive for both girls and boys. Chess creates a level playing field that allows boys and girls of any age to compete. We felt that we could really help the children of Newark by supporting this new league. Chess is a game which increases mental alertness and challenges students of all ages.”

More than 35 children from seven local primary schools in the Newark area have joined the league. Currently 12 teams of four children compete against each other and the next round will be held at Muskham Primary School in the spring. All schools are welcome to join the league by contacting Maggie care of Winthorpe Primary School.
