New Century Productions Equips Mobile Units with FOR-A Frame Synchronizers

June 2, 2009 - PRLog -- WAYNE, New Jersey – Allentown, Penn.-based New Century Productions, a full service remote video production company for broadcast and corporate clients, recently acquired 18 FOR-A FA-9100 HD/SD frame synchronizers for use in two of its 12 mobile production units. NCP XI HD, a 53-foot expanding HD trailer, is equipped with 10 FOR-A FA-9100s HD/SD frame synchronizers, while NCP IV, an HD expando unit, travels with four FA-9100s.

NCP XI, a newer addition to NCP’s fleet, operates as a general purpose production truck without a B unit. It is often utilized for set-shoot-strike events, which involve same day arrival, setup, production, and knock down – a common scenario when two sports teams in one region are competing during the same time of year.

According to Mike Mundt, NCP Chief Engineer, the FA-9100 is particularly well-suited to the challenges of today’s multi-format mobile production environment. “The features found in the FA-9100 are unmatched by any other device at the same price point,” he said. “It sets up fast and is easy to use, helping us maintain our versatility in the face of a constantly changing environment.”

The FA-9100 offers 12-bit internal video processing, eight-channel support for embedded audio and AES/EBU, and four-channel support for analog audio. Multi-channel audio signal processing is possible without phase differences between channels, and audio delay adjustment is provided for synchronizing to the video signal. Options for the FA-9100/RPS include a DV/HDV interface, logo generator, Dolby E encoder/decoder, frame rate converter, and auto level controller.

Cross-conversion needs vary from project to project, and Mundt said the FA-9100’s optional up/down/cross-converter provides exceptional functionality. “For NCP XI to be successful, we needed to be able to ingest large numbers of feeds in any format that might cross our path,” he added. “The FA-9100 can feed either analog composite video, SDI, or HD-SDI, plus analog or AES audio, then process the signal and send it back out in any or all of those formats.”

The FA-9100 also offers an optional color corrector that integrates technology from the FOR-A DCC color corrector series – the broadcast industry standard – that enables three color correction modes with gamma correction, clip functions, and other adjustments. The added benefits of color correction capabilities made the FA-9100 an obvious choice, said Mundt. “For years, FOR-A has been the gold standard by which other products were judged when it came to color correction,” said Mundt. “Having a fully functional color corrector, complete with white, black, gamma, and clip correction, made the FA-9100  indispensable to a multi-purpose truck such as ours.”
