Mars Volunteer Program - making a difference.

The Mars Volunteer Programme (MVP) is an exciting and worthwhile initiative which gives Mars Associates the chance to really make a difference in the community, both locally and nationally.

June 1, 2009 - PRLog -- The programme revolves around supporting four main themes: Youth Enrichment, Hunger Relief, Animal Welfare and the Environment.

Over the last few years Mars Drinks (http://www.marsdrinks.co.uk/default.aspx) has supported 5 key national charities and through various fundraising events has raised a massive total of £14,364, with donations made up of the following:

- Children in Need - £4,483
- Comic Relief - £5,634
- Jeans for Genes - £1,348
- Sport Relief - £2,421
- Wear it Pink - £478

In addition to national events, Mars Drinks has also raised almost £4,000 for local charities near to its headquarters in Basingstoke. Plans for more support through the MVP not only include continuing fundraising activities and product donation, but also Mars Drinks Associates will offer their skills or time to community projects. A superb example of this was the recent work we did with the Westside Children’s Centre, supplying Easter eggs and KLIX (http://www.klix.co.uk/klix/en-GB/) drinks for their Grand Opening Day.

There is so much that we can all do to improve our communities both locally and nationally, the Mars Volunteer Programme is a great way for us to get involved.

In 2009 we will continue to raise money for the Big 5 national charities (Children in Need, Comic Relief, Jeans for Genes, Sport Relief and Wear it Pink) – not only are they fantastic causes but we also have great fun raising money for them. We will also be contacting local charity and community groups to see how we can strengthen ties with them and support them with product, time or skills in the coming year. Some of the local organisations already on our radar include a children’s cancer charity, hunger relief group, elderly care home and a conservation and forestry trust.

If you have any ideas or belong to a local organisation that you think would benefit from help from our Mars Volunteer Programme then please get in touch with us at Mars Drinks. Whilst we can’t promise we’ll be able to support everything, we’d love to hear from you and see if we can help your cause in some way.
