| Bio Supply Management Alliance Adds World-Class Experts to Board of AdvisorsStellar Slate of Leaders Joined by Biotech and Pharma Supply Chain Executives and Educators
By: Tim Salaver The Bio Supply Management Alliance was created by Tim Salaver and Devendra Mishra from the success of their Biotech Supply Chain Academy which they produced in 2008 to an enthusiastic supply chain community. “The members of the Advisory Board bring world-class leadership, experience and knowledge of the biopharma industry and provide the navigational compass so that the Biotech Supply Chain Academy can serve the various stakeholders as the industry moves from being a science to a business,” says Mishra. In addressing the complex issues on the advice of their board, they forged relationships with leading biotech and pharma firms and educational organizations. In order to meet the future growth and increase the capabilities of all firms, four veteran supply chain leaders have joined the Board of Advisors: Mark Buck, SVP, Supply Chain Management of Bio-Rad Laboratories ; R. Andrew Ramelmeier, Ph.D., of BioMarin Pharmaceutical , Nancy Nix, Ph.D., of Texas Christian University, and Nabil Rageh, Ph.D., of Golden Gate University. MARK BUCK Mark Buck brings more than 19 years of private and public sector experience in supply chain management & global sourcing, Lean manufacturing & operations planning, Six Sigma Quality Improvement, acquisition assimilation, and organizational change, completing complex outsourcing & global sourcing projects in senior leadership roles with NCR, Solectron, Asyst Technologies, Apple Computer, Celerity Group Inc., and Apple. Buck is now at Bio-Rad Inc.(www.bio- Buck received a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois, and an MBA from National University in La Jolla, California. Mark is a certified Quality Systems Review (QSR) assessor, and he has been responsible for establishing more than 300 suppliers, world-wide compliance with Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), adopted by the European Union in 2006 to eliminate six environmentally hazardous materials from products and components. R. ANDREW RAMELMEIER, Ph.D. Dr. R. Andrew “Andy” Ramelmeier is Vice President, Manufacturing, Process Sciences and Facilities, at BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Inc. , a profitable biotechnology company specializing in enzyme replacement therapies. In this role, Ramelmeier is responsible for bulk manufacturing of two commercial biologics products, development and clinical manufacturing of pipeline product candidates and facilities maintenance and project engineering. Before joining BioMarin, Ramelmeier was Vice President, Process Sciences at Centocor /J&J and was responsible for technical support of J&J’s BioPharm manufacturing plants. Prior to this, he held roles of increasing responsibility in Pharmaceutical Development at Centocor R&D and in BioProcess R&D at Merck & Co. Ramelmeier has over 15 years experience in the development and manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals, including monoclonal antibodies, vaccines and therapeutic enzymes. He has a strong track record in strategic planning, building and running manufacturing facilities, developing and transferring biological processes from R&D to manufacturing, technical support of marketed products, and clinical and commercial supply chain. His technical experience spans upstream (fermentation and perfusion and batch cell culture) and downstream, including, purification, formulation, and fill/finish. Prior to his employment, Ramelmeier conducted post-doctoral work in Germany at the Institute for Enzyme Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Johns Hopkins. NANCY NIX, Ph.D. Nancy Nix is the Director of the Executive MBA program at , Texas Christian University, Neeley School of Business. Dr. Nix has established close working relationships with multiple companies and generated funding for the development of TCU’s supply chain programs. She led the development of MBA and undergraduate curriculum in supply chain management, and hosted multiple executive forums and conferences featuring supply chain experts discussing leading-edge practices. The Supply and Value Chain programs at Neeley are recognized among the leading programs in the U.S. Dr. Nix teaches in the Supply and Value Chain Center and is an Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management. She received an MBA Faculty Award in 2005 and an award for innovation in curriculum development in 2006. Dr. Nix is an active member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and the Institute for Supply Management. She currently serves as chair of the Research Strategies Committee and on the Board of Directors of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. In 2008, she received the Outstanding Contribution to Logistics Education award from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. Dr. Nix holds a BS in Chemistry from Salisbury State University, an MBA from Temple University and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. NABIL RAGEH, Ph.D. Nabil Rageh, Ph.D., is the Director, Doctor of Business Administration Program (DBA) and Professor of Operations Management in the Ageno School of Business, Golden Gate University. Dr. Rageh has served as a member of the Advisory Board of the APICS Golden Gate Chapter. He was the former Dean of the School of Operations Management at Golden Gate University. Previously with NASCO Group International, Switzerland, as Senior Vice President, where he directed the group's planning and control activities for diverse industrial and real estate businesses in Switzerland, Italy, Nigeria, Turkey, and Morocco. He was also Senior Vice President for BETA Company in Saudi Arabia. From 1966 to 1982, he worked at Cutter Laboratories (now Bayer Healthcare) as Division Vice President for the corporate materials management division of this hospital products manufacturing firm. Dr. Rageh holds a BS (Distinction and Honor) in Industrial Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt, an MS and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from University of California, Berkeley. He is an expert in Operations and Supply Chain Management, Total Quality Management, Flexible Manufacturing Management, and Project and Systems Management. He teaches Project Management, Technology Systems in Business, Systems Management courses in the graduate program.
