Cybertek Studios to Bring the True Story of a Young California Drug Lord to the Big Screen

New Feature Film, WEIGHT, Recounts the Alarming Story of One of the Youngest and Most Successful Drug Dealers in the United States

May 5, 2009 - PRLog -- Los Angeles, CA – Glendale based integrated media company, Cybertek Studios, is bringing Darryl “Lil’ D” Reed’s story from outside California’s infamous Bay Area to the theatres.  With a Spring/Summer 2010 theatrical release, WEIGHT is based on the life of Oakland’s first drug kingpin, Lil D, a living legend in the streets for having evaded federal drug charges for years.

In the 1980’s, Lil D became the youngest and most successful cocaine dealer when he took control of the 69th Village MOB’s drug distribution organization at the age of 15 after the arrest of gang leader and notorious kingpin, Felix Mitchell.  Although the drug game is an invitation to destruction, Lil D believed in the philosophy of non-violence, which allowed him to conduct business with people his predecessors abstained from, making Lil D a powerful entity as a teenager.  WEIGHT promises to be more than just a drug kingpin story, but takes a realistic account of the drug epidemic in the 1980’s and the true depiction of what the United States Government labeled “The Felix Mitchell Paradox.”

Executive Producer Todd Graham (aka Hollywood G) has signed on Platinum Hip Hop artists and Oakland natives Earl “E40” Stevens, Todd “Too Short” Shaw and Stanley “MC Hammer” Burrell as consultants to keep the authenticity of the project. They will also lend their talents to the movie’s soundtrack along with R&B artist Daylon Alexander.  Producers include Carol Shine, Chris Beal, Ricardo Gonzalez, Robert Harrison and Dennis Haywood.  Director and cast are to be announced later this summer.
