TROUT ARE STUPID, LAZY, AND THEY DON'T SEE VERY WELL EITHER
Outdoor Enthusiasts Flock to Ozarks Fly Fishing School to Separate Facts from Fiction

Trout fishermen have long held onto the belief that their fish of choice is fundamentally a stronger specimen than competing species like bass, catfish and crappie.  "Not true!" says Walt Fulps, better known to many as 'Missouri Trout Hunter'.  "Don't get me wrong," he goes on to say.  "I've had a love affair of sorts with trout for more than 30 years, but most of the theories fishermen have about them are nothing more than legend."

Fulps asserts that trout are not smarter than other species of fish, nor do they have the sharp visual acuity for which many give them credit.  "Trout fishermen have invented those beliefs over the years, simply because we needed an excuse for why we couldn't catch them as easily as we could other species.  The biggest trout are not the smartest trout.  They're simply the most frightened, which is why they're so difficult to catch.  And human eyesight is actually about 14 times stronger than that of a trout."

As Fulps developed his unorthodox theories over the years, one thing led to another, and he found himself to be developing a following, which led to Trout Hunter Guide Service based in Rolla, Missouri.  As a successful trout fishing guide and fly fishing instructor, it was likely inevitable that Fulps would develop a friendship with Tom Schlueter, the fly fishing manager at Westover Farms Nature Park.  Westover Farms, located just south of Steelville, Missouri, is well-known for it's privately managed trophy trout streams and beautiful setting.

"As Tom and I got to know each other, we realized that we shared many of the same theories, and it seemed silly that we weren't yet cooperating to spread the word about what trout fishing means to us."  And so, the 'Trout Hunter Fly Fishing School' was born as a cooperative venture between Missouri Trout Hunter and Westover Farms.

"Our students will spend 2-1/2 days with us receiving intensive training in fly fishing for trout, not only learning the physical skills required, but also spending time in the classroom learning about trout biology, feeding behaviors, and migration habits.  And, of course, we'll spend as much time on the river as possible.  By the time the students leave us Sunday evening, they'll likely be exhausted, but they will be honest-to-goodness fly fishermen and women."
