| Local Author, Lori Purdy Faitel, takes Pride as Phoebe Faitel, Class Valedictorian, PosesYes, Phoebe is a puppy with a very important purpose
Phoebe is the very much loved pet with an important job; she brightens the days and brings joy to residents in several assisted living facilities. Lori Purdy Faitel, author of the recently released book, “Am I Brain Damaged,” is an occupational therapist assistant who works with people in assisted living facilities. Lori recently started bringing Phoebe to work with her so she could visit with the residents who just couldn’t get enough of her. Phoebe loved the attention and the treats she received as she ran from room to room to visit. Lori wasn’t always in the health care industry. She used to be an executive secretary, attending college to get her degree in business administration. At the age of 25, she was in a devastating car accident which left her in a coma for 7 days. Lori woke from the coma like an infant; she had to learn to walk and talk all over again. During her healing and recovery from a closed-head injury, Lori was told she would not advance past an 8th grade level; she beat the odds! She went back to college and received her degree in business. She attempted to return to work as an executive secretary; however, she realized how much she had grown and changed after her injury. Friends and co-workers encouraged her to go to work in group homes, one of which was for the closed-head injured. Lori returned to college and received a two-year certificate in occupational therapy to become an occupational therapy assistant. Lori Purdy Faitel’s book, “Am I Brain Damaged,” is a compilation of her memoirs of her recovery from her injury. Lori wrote the book to enlighten everyone to the internal trials and confusion she experienced beginning when her brain was that of an infant. Her goal is to open the eyes of everyone involved with someone who is head injured and to encourage her head injured colleagues to find their own level of comfort and to live the best life they can. Lori’s book is available today; visit http://outskirtspress.com/ http://aspiringauthor.synthasite.com to learn more. With GOD all things are possible.
