Liberty Platinum - From Concept to Design to Production

The president of Anchor Audio was recently interviewed about the upcoming launch of the company’s next generation Liberty Platinum portable public address sound system.

April 20, 2009 - PRLog -- Torrance, CA. – The Anchor Audio Liberty portable sound system has been the industry leader for 20 years.  Rather than resting on its laurels, Anchor is celebrating by introducing an all new Liberty Platinum in the summer 2009.  President Janet Jacobs explains how Anchor Audio designs and manufactures world class sound systems at the Torrance, California facility.

The Liberty Platinum is a new look for Anchor Audio.  How long was the time between concept and release?

Because Anchor Audio is a privately held company, the management team can move at a very fast pace.  We began to discuss the Liberty Platinum less than 18 months ago.  Detailed specifications were considered, and a financial plan was reviewed.  Once it was determined there would be a positive return on investment the plan was launched.

Anchor has staff for every step of new product development.  Printed circuit board schematics and lay out, solid works 3 D modeling, speaker design and enclosure acoustics were blended together to create a state of the art sound system.  All of the design and testing was conducted in our laboratory in Torrance, California.
How did the Liberty Platinum come to be?

The Liberty Platinum enclosure and features come from listening to our customers.  Anchor dealers are in close contact with their sales representative.  They tell us what the consumer wants.  The battery-powered Liberty Platinum enclosure needed to weigh less.  The features needed to include an MP3 player and USB charging port.  The batteries needed to be more efficient and last longer.  Our engineers were able to improve the sound clarity and power throughput as well.

How does Anchor compete with portable sound systems made offshore?

Anchor’s lean manufacturing techniques have reduced the labor needed to build products to under 10% of the total cost.  As a result, offshore manufacturers cannot compete with Anchor based on cheaper labor rates.  They do however skimp on quality control and it shows in terms of their out of box failures and repair requirements.  By contrast, Anchor is well known for its high quality and durability.  Our customers have put Anchor products to the test in the most demanding environments including Navy ships at sea, SEALS training facilities, the Iraq War, and Desert Storm just to name a few.  Anchor Audio ships within three days of receipt of a purchase order. Product reliability, product availability and customer service provide for a very satisfied dealer network.

How has Anchor Audio gone green?

Anchor has been RoHS compliant for at least three years.  More efficient product design and more efficient parts reduce power consumption which adds to the life of the portable sound system batteries.

What markets will experience the most growth at Anchor Audio with the release of the Liberty Platinum?

The Liberty has been the hallmark product from the beginning of Anchor Audio crossing over many niche markets – education, hospitality, government, houses of worship – and we expect the Liberty Platinum to show growth in the same markets.

What does the future hold for Anchor Audio?

Anchor is at the beginning of the next 18 month cycle for product development.  Products for consideration come directly from the sales staff and must meet multiple criteria to make it to the design phase.  Look for Anchor to continue its industry leadership through constant innovation.  Check our website www.anchoraudio.com and follow us on twitter.com/anchoraudio to see what’s new.
