Follow on Google News | Cross receives 4-star rating for sound fiscal management from non-profit watchdog Charity NavCross International, a South-Florida-based charity providing relief and development aid to the poor overseas, recently received a 4-star rating from industry watchdog Charity Navigator for its ability to effectively manage and grow its finances.
By: Brian Schutt, VP of Marketing “Cross International executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America,” said Ken Berger, president and CEO of the Charity Navigator, in a letter to Cross announcing the honor. “This designation… The Charity Navigator chooses non-profits to rate based on the work they do and their prominence in the humanitarian community. Once a charity is chosen for review, a team of professional analysts pours over dozens of financial documents evaluating its organizational efficiency, capacity, accountability and leadership. Each charity is then awarded an overall rating, ranging from zero to four stars. Dubbed as America's largest independent charity evaluator, the Charity Navigator has assessed the financial health of more than 5,400 of America's largest charities. Its method of applying data-driven analysis to the charitable sector has been profiled and celebrated by respected publications such as Forbes, Business Week, and Kiplinger’s Financial Magazine “We’re very gratified to receive Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating,” said Jim Cavnar, president of Cross International. “When Cross was founded, we made accountability and transparency to donors one of our highest objectives. We hope that Cross will always be recognized for its integrity and for its efficient use of donor contributions to achieve the maximum benefit for the poor we serve in the developing world.” To view Cross International’ About Cross: Cross International (Cross) is an interdenominational Christian humanitarian organization based in South Florida that provides relief and development aid to the poorest of the poor in Christ’s name. We began in 2001 by helping those suffering extreme poverty in Haiti and the Caribbean, but our ministry soon grew to include those living in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Though we provide emergency aid and necessities such as food, our goal is to break the cycle of poverty plaguing so many in the world by promoting education and microenterprise programs and focusing on community development. We partner with needy church-based ministries serving the poor in developing countries, providing them with the financial support they lack and distributing aid through their existing programs. This style of outreach enables us to supply meaningful help where it is needed most, while keeping overhead costs low. Our strong ethical practices have earned us ongoing accreditation by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability and recognition from the Chronicle of Philanthropy as one of the most significant non-profit organizations in the U.S. End
