Lori Purdy Faitel, Aspiring Author, speaks to Psychology Students about Recovery from Head Injury

March 28, 2009 - PRLog -- West Bloomfield, MI – This was her first time speaking in front of a group.  I wonder if she realized that this could be the toughest of audiences; high-school students, honest, critical and blunt!  Lori Purdy Faitel, aspiring author, spoke to a class of 1st Level Psychology students at Rochester-Adams High School on March 27, 2009.  “I warned the students that I might become emotional, need a tissue or have to step out of the room if I became overwhelmed,” said Lori.  “I was impressed as they were attentive, considerate and compassionate.”

Lori is the author of the book, “Am I Brain Damaged?”  The book is about her recovery from a serious car accident that resulted in a closed-head injury, leaving her in a coma for 7 days.  She woke up, an infant in a 25-year old body.  Lori had to learn how to walk and talk all over again.  “Through my memoirs you will read about beginning rehab and therapy, from the first time I moved in my bed to my first recollection of medical intervention to returning home to my parent’s house,” said Lori.  

Lori’s book covers her return to normal life and the difficulty the public has with the mentally handicapped.  Faced with many moral and social struggles, Lori feels blessed to have followed the correct path.  “Many head injured individuals do not feel the need to listen to moral direction as they lead a life of immorality and dishonesty,” Lori explained.

Lori’s story ends happily with her life as it is today.  She is happily married to the man she was dating at the time of her injury.  “I have over 16 years experience as a medical professional with normal friends.  I can truly call myself a normal functioning lady.”
