March 12, 2009 - PRLog -- Los Angeles is home of Hollywood and movie stars, and it's also the place to be if you are an aspiring dancer.  Dance classes are taught, opportunities are made, careers blossom, and lives are enriched.  Many aspiring dancers move to Los Angeles as the first step to come into contact with the professional dance industry.

Dancer Galen Hooks is a native of Los Angeles, and has been taking dance classes since she was a youngster.  In her interview with JigTV.com, Galen talks about how growing up in Los Angeles afforded her opportunities to learn dance and exposed her to dancers that she otherwise would have missed out on.

She followed up by stating that she has great respect for those dancers who move to LA, adding that she doesn't think she would be able to make such a bold move.  She gave herself some credit in talking about some of her friends that are longer professional dancers.  "It's not like it's that easy," she said, "It's not like it's just handed to you, but I had all the resources at my disposal and it was my job to be ready to take them and take advantage of everything that was available to me."

When asked about her favorite project she has worked on, Galen brought up a series of ads she did for Nike, as well as anything involving tap dancing.  She said she grew up learning tap and jazz, and learned hip-hop dance later, but now most of her work is hip-hop since that is what's most in demand.

Galen ended the interview by giving two pieces of advice to dancers going on an audition: first, make sure your appearance is complete, your hair and clothes are exactly how you want them, as it says a lot about you and how people perceive you, whether you like it or not.  Secondly, she urges auditioning dancers to have good etiquette.  She says she often sees good dancers who don't get hired because they are rude to the other dancers.
