Bamboo Wind Chimes Workshop coming to SCHC

Students will learn about and create unique bamboo wind chimes with Rob Mendrop, landscape specialist and bamboo man.
 
Feb. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is pleased to welcome Rob Mendrop as he introduces students to the art of bamboo.  Individuals will learn about and create unique bamboo wind chimes.  Rob will demonstrate from start to finish how to construct the chimes and will have several examples of finished products.  Students will learn how to select and cut the bamboo pieces and will learn about the proper tools required for the project.  Registration is $40/members and $45/non-members.  All supplies are included.  Reservations are required.  For more information, please contact the SCHF office at 631-2997 or email info@southernculture.org.

Rob Mendrop is from Vicksburg, MS.  He graduated from Mississippi State University with a B.S. Degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design.  Rob moved to Los Angeles and worked with in landscape design and consulting for 18 years.  He then moved to New Orleans and worked with the City of New Orleans as the Chief Horticulturist and Greenhouse Supervisor.  He moved to Edwards, Mississippi and owns a landscaping company, Dreamscape Designs.  Bamboo is one of his favorite plants.  With bamboo, you can create wind chimes, trellises, fences, furniture, picture frames, curtain rods, walking sticks, candlesticks, stilts — even charcoal. You can weave it, crisscross it, paint, stain, or varnish it.

The SCHF, a non-profit organization, maintains and operates a Mississippi Landmark property and formerly the St. Francis Xavier Convent and Academy. It is one of the most architecturally and historically significant city blocks in downtown Vicksburg.
