Young Oprah Takes Entertainment Industry by Storm
Teen entrepreneur creates a fashion magazine at age 14!
The founder, Savannah Britt, is not your average 14 year-old. While most young ladies her age would be busy chasing boys and fighting with their parents over how short they can wear their skirts, she's active in the business world, busily creating an empire. And it didn't start recently; she's been on an entrepreneurial mission for years, producing her first high fashion photo shoot at age 13.
"I've always been intrigued by every aspect of the industry. One day I decided to make my own magazine that features those thing teens want and need," says Britt. "From celebrity interviews to front row coverage at Fashion Week, I knew that my magazine would have the ‘it' factor."
She gained experience, building a web site aimed at empowering 12 to16 year-old girls. And while many girls her age are dreaming of stars, she's off conducting interviews with celebrities such as Kevin Rudolf and Shwayze. She's also reported on notables such as Chris Brown, Katy Perry, Lil' Wayne, and Lady Gaga. She's even received a personal letter from Teen Vogue's editor in chief, Amy Astley, congratulating her on her success.
In May of 2008, online gossip sites began gossiping about the 14 year-old socialite turned entrepreneur. The popular New York City socialite blog, Park Ave Peerage, had posters asking whether or not Britt was the next Diane Beijo. Quickly becoming a red carpet favorite, Britt has made recent appearances at red carpet events such as New York's Fashion Week, the R&B Pioneer Awards, and the 2008 A.C.E. Dinner Gala.
"I rarely sit idol, regularly attending fashion shows, social events, and philanthropic functions," adds Britt. "While others watch television after school, I'm busy offering seminars on how to publish a magazine. Right now I'm in sales mode, working on selling ad space for the website. It's not easy keeping the magazine up and running while being an honors student and trying to launch my modeling career. But I'm so overjoyed by the success the magazine has made so far."
