Jan. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- It’s 1913 in Saint Petersburg, Russia and the first clouds of World War I and the Russian Revolution are gathering.  Eighteen-year-old Sophia Gurova marries Prince Alexander Orlov, a Russian aristocrat through the insistence of her parents.   Sophia is deeply unhappy, but must keep up the appearance of a wealthy socialite.

Fate deals Sophia a new card when she meets a brilliant young painter, Sergey Moiseyev at her wedding party.  Soon Sergey and Sophia begin a passionate love affair and all is swept up in the tide of events.  The upper classes attempt to ignore the impending doom of inevitable war, but cannot when the Nevsky Prospekt massacre happens in their streets.

Sophia’s life unravels rapidly as the Revolution destroys the only world she’s ever known.  Sophia becomes pregnant with her lover’s child and her husband is seriously injured.  She extracts a promise from her brother, Kiril, to protect her child at all costs if anything should happen to her.

Will Kiril keep his promise?  What role will Sophia’s daughter play in the future of Russia?  What will Sophia’s daughter discover about her past and who plays the ultimate price for Sergey and Sophia’s love affair?

Set against the turbulent backdrop of the Russian revolution and two World Wars, The Revolution’s Child is deftly and stylistically written.  Stanley’s novel is populated with richly-textured and believable characters; the plotlines move seamlessly and the dialogue is richly and skillfully authentic.
