Jan. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- LONDON, UK – The record breaking achievements of twins, Peter and Paula Imafidon have received formal confirmation today, following the official UK government figures published in London. The results are announced annually by the Department for Children, Schools, and Families, the British government national bureau responsible for education. The Imafidon twins, who attend an inner city state school, passed the tough advanced college-level Mathematics papers at the tender age of seven along side candidates who were over two times older.

According to the Guinness book of World records, the current record holder is Dr Ruth Lawrence a former Harvard University academic, who passed the exams at the age of nine. The release of these school and college achievement and attainment statistics for the latest examination results show that Peter and Paula Imafidon have set three new world records. One record, for being the youngest candidates ever to pass the Advanced Mathematics paper. The second record is for being the youngest ever elementary school pupils to pass the exams. And the third record is that they are the youngest twins ever to achieve this level any where in the world. Dr Lawrence is now a professor at Einstein Institute of Mathematics.

The Excellence in Education (EIE) Programme, a not-for-profit alliance of corporations and charities (www.excellenceineducation.org.uk), which has produced most modern geniuses nominated the Imafidon twins for this year's annual parliamentary award for academics following their incredible performance and phenomenal speed of mental calculations.
A Family spokesperson for the Imafidons said "This world record proves that ordinary children, no matter what their background, can be made into good pupils. I hope that children all over the world will be inspired by what the twins have achieved and, as a result of that, embrace learning as a way of improving the world."

Peter and Paula are totally oblivious of the significance of their results as they were "just playing with numbers for the fun of it" and are not looking forward to any reward, recognition, or record. "Their competitive streak and the desire to outperform each other is the biggest factor in any pursuits, from sports to board games. So they see Mathematics as 'a game of number tricks' and any exam as 'another competitive event or activity'" opines an EIE spokesperson. The Twins and their siblings were all enrolled in the EIE gifted programme. Paula said "I am excited to pass… but I should have got higher than Peter"

Last year the twins' elder sibling, Samantha broke the world record by passing the University of Cambridge Foundations of Advanced Mathematics paper with the highest grade at the mere age of 9.  She wrote her first maths book 'Mathematics Manual' at the age of 6, after passing a high school-level examination in Math at the age 6. Now, Samantha has just compiled her revision notes on Calculus into a second book entitled "Shortcuts to Calculus" to help the twins and other friends understand advanced mathematical concepts. In order to help their classmates, the Twins have also jointly compiled a book on how to solve mathematical puzzles and problems. Their eldest sister, Anne-Marie is the record holder of the youngest girl ever to pass college-level computing exam at the age of eleven. Neither parent is a mathematician.

Commenting on these record breaking results, Oxford University Mathematician, Professor Marcus du Sautoy said “congratulations to these children. Many people believe that some children are born with a maths brain and others are not. It is my belief that we are all born with a brain that is programmed to do mathematics. It has been part of our evolutionary survival to be able to count and do geometry. But of course nurture is important in bringing out the full potential of our brains to do mathematics” And to any student who could not make it this time, "try harder next time because you can make it as well" added Prof du Sautoy.

EIE pupils nominated the Royal Marsden Hospital as their charity of the year. THE END
