Orlando Technology Firm Launches New Online Security Fix To Render "Phishing" Hackers Useless

Among the dozens of web-based scams that threaten online financial transactions, “phishing” is one of the most destructive. Now an Orlando technology company has found a way to fight back.

Dec. 23, 2008 - PRLog -- Daniel White, chief executive officer of Perceptive Technologies, LLC., said phishing costs unwitting consumers literally billions of dollars each year and banks, stock brokers, even online sales organizations like Amazon.com and eBay million-dollar headaches.

‘Phishers’ send massive numbers of emails that are designed to look like official communications from, say, a bank. The emails contain official logos and official-sounding titles and descriptions. They offer an excuse---an online security check---and ask consumers to help by providing correct banking information.

Sometimes, consumers don’t know they’ve been “phished” until their bank accounts are emptied.

“This is particularly malicious, and banks especially dread these attacks,” said White. “Even when they are unsuccessful, the bank’s reputation and online security are brought into doubt,” he said.

Perceptive Technologies’ new Phishing Phoiler is an online tool that counterattacks phishing operations within 24 hours. White said the system patrols the Internet continuously, searching for evidence of phishing scams.  Then Phishing Phoiler computers actively attack the data integrity of the criminal’s computers until the scam is removed, White said.

“Phishing Phoiler is a reactive technology that is adaptive,” White said.

“Each new phishing attempt uses a different strategy, and Phishing Phoiler reacts with new counter-measures so perpetrators can’t adapt,” he said.

The service only attacks websites that are verified fraudulent, eliminating the danger of collateral damage to legitimate web sites, either existing or future.

And Phishing Phoiler works with clients to alert security technicians in real time through secure channels.

“Phishing Phoiler’s goals are simple,” White said. “We can save consumers billions of dollars in losses, save consumers the headache of identity theft, and we can save client companies billions by preventing theft and reinforcing the integrity of Internet based e-commerce.
