Is There Such A Thing As Free Public Records?

Dec. 5, 2008 - PRLog -- Actually, public records are free.  They are records that are documented by the government for public viewing.  However, the government does spend money on creating and making these records available to the public.

Public records consist of every bit of information about a person, ranging from criminal details to property details etc.  There are huge numbers of public records out there because of the huge demand for them.

There are several sources for free public records too.  There are completely free resources, some partly free and others are just lures of free records.  The records that are provided at the government offices are usually completely free of charge.  Some offices may charge a nominal administrative fee.  There are many websites that offer free public records but they are not what they seem. Many of these websites may say free but once you initiate the search and the results are retrieved, before displaying the results they ask you to pay their fee.  Many commercial databases provide searches for free but charge for downloading the reports.  

As long as you know that you cannot get anything for free in this world, you would be cautious with the free public records sites.  Although, the best free resources are the ones provided by the government for the benefit of the public, the way these records are stored is not organized and it takes a lot of time to go through all of them and find what you need.  

The wisest thing is to go with the paid services.  You do get what you pay for.  If you do not pay anything, you do not get anything. It is as simple as that.
