Follow on Google News | If It’s Good Enough For Superman......A Nineteen year-old music graduate from Glastonbury could well be the holder of the longest name in the world after changing his name by Deed Poll to
By: Top Position The youngster changed his name at The Legal Deed Service after his friends offered their words of encouragement, but he never believed that his wacky name change would result in him being the bearer of the longest name in not just the UK – but maybe even the world. The formerly named George Garatt, who works in a local cafe in Glastonbury, Somerset, said, “I decided to change my name as a bit of a laugh, I decided upon a theme – superheros and whenever my friends offered up suggestions to me I would add those to the list. I can’t believe that I have got the longest name in the UK and maybe even the world – it is crazy.” He added, “The amusing thing is that my family have begun to expect these sorts of things from me and although my friends thought my new name change was ridiculous most people do call me captain, I have found it to be a great conversation starter too. “I really like my new name so I think I might stick with it, I sometimes forget what to call myself when answering the phone, but it is just one of those things. What really surprised me was how easy it was to change my name.” To register a name change, an online form has to be filled out where the customer adds in their old name and new chosen name, and a document is sent through the post to confirm it. This costs around £10 for a standard adult name change and just £11.50 to change a child’s name at The Legal Deed Service. Damian Field, a spokesperson for the Guinness Book of Records said, “We monitor a category for ‘longest personal name’. The longest name to appear on a birth certificate is for Rhoshandiatellyneshiaunneveshenk Koyaanisquatsiuth Williams, born to Mr and Mrs James Williams in Beaumont, Texas, USA on 12 Sep 1984”. With an astonishing 57 characters, this name was the longest they had come across, that was until the former George Garatt changed his name to a whopping 86 characters. Jamie Jackson, Chief executive at The Legal Deed Service, who helped the formerly named George Garatt to change his name said, “We just could not believe that we have helped to create one of the longest names certainly in the UK but maybe even the world. As soon as we realised we rang the Guinness World Records on George’s behalf on Thursday (October 30) and we were gobsmacked when we were told that there was no-one registered.” Mr Jackson added, “We get so many outrageous name changes that it bearly fazes us but when this one was brought to my attention I just knew there was something special about it. What’s more surprising is that we have seen an increasing number of customers seeking to change their name to that of their favourite superheros.” About the Legal Deed Service The Legal Deed Service is registered as a Limited company in England and Wales under number 06560160*.
