UK EXCLUSIVE: 2009 ‘The’ Year For Crazy Name Changes

2009 may have been the year of the credit crunch but thousands have attempted to lighten the mood by changing their name to a jazzy new moniker.

Jan. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Deed poll specialist The Legal Deed Service has launched some of the craziest and most memorable names of the year with laugh-out-loud titles including Mrs British Battleaxe, Captain Fantastic, Agent 47, Cauliflower and Broccoli. The firm says it has seen its crazy name applications go up by more than a quarter in 2009.

The Shropshire based deed poll firm officially changed former MPs wife Christine Hamilton’s name to ‘Mrs British Battleaxe , earlier this year, after making the first ever informational video on how to change a name by Deed Poll, have since found that a craze has developed for new identities and fresh beginnings- especially during the recession.

Jamie Jackson, chairman of The Legal Deed Poll Service who also changed two of the Big Brother housemates names to ‘Dogface’ and ‘Halfwit’ as part of this year’s show, said “Here at The Legal Deed Service we are more than used to seeing bizarre name change applications come through in their droves, but this year the amount of unusual applications has increased by around 25 per-cent.”

Although the firm process thousands of more serious name changes including those for children, individuals undergoing separation and title changes for couples who simply cannot afford to get married but would like to be considered as such, the firm has also processed some of the most baffling name changes the UK has ever seen.

Jamie Jackson added, “There are so many reasons why people choose to change their names officially and as long as those names are not offensive or misleading, you really are free to be called whatever you wish.”

Vying for the title of most mind-boggling name change of 2009 are Princess-Rainbow, Mrs British Battleaxe, Bruce Willis, Kenny Logflume and wait for it...............’Who Flung Dung Wasn’t Me Was It You If So I Am Not Very Happy’.

Animal Stephen Leonidas Floyd Mayweather McManus Edmunds (Surrey)

Animal, formerly Stephen Edmunds is not just a character from the Muppets it is now the name of a Thorpe Park security guard from Surrey. The 26-year-old said, "After biting a child at school when I was about ten my friend's gave me the nick-name 'Animal' and it stuck."

Agent 47 (Liverpool)

20 year-old Christopher Dobson changed his name to 'Agent 47' after his two friends decided to make a drunken pact after watching the Hollywood blockbuster 'Hitman' to change their names to 'Agent 46', 'Agent 47' and 'Agent 48.'

Agent 47 said "I started a Facebook group to drum up some support and to see if I could get 1000 hits and I got 1500 people joining the group. Some were family and friends but others were strangers from around the world - someone from California even joined!"

Dogface Reade & Halfwit Fisher (Big Brother)

Big Brother called Sophie to the diary room on day two of the show to receive her task. After clarification that a deed poll was a legally binding document Big Brother asked Sophie to read the deed aloud. She said: "That is so insulting! I could be, like, a British bulldog, with them wrinkly faces."

Oxford University graduate, Freddie Fisher, who changed his name through The Legal Deed Service to 'Halfwit' said: "You like dogs. You'll be fine. I'm confident enough in my intelligence to be Halfwit."

Kenny Logflume (Nottingham)

The 24-year-old car salesman, formerly known as Gareth Griffiths, changed his name after his colleagues said he would never go through with it.

Mr Logflume, who works at Vauxhall said: "I pulled a face on my driver's licence photo and everyone thinks that my real name does not live up to the photo, so after much debate my workmates chose me a brand new name – Kenny Logflume.

Captain Fantastic Faster than Superman Batman Spiderman Wolverine Hulk and the Flash Combined (Somerset)

Student George Garratt changed his name to incorporate all Super Heroes – potentially breaking a world recording in the process.

Damien Field, a spokesman for the Guinness Book of Records, said that it did monitor a category for the longest personal name.

Chev Chelios (London)

21-year-old David Robert Sharpey legally changed his name to that of action hero Chev Chelios following a dare on social networking site.

After announcing the winner of the dare the now Chev Chelios was given a cheque for $1000.

Bruce Willis (Northumbria)

Spritely shop assistant, Chris Pratt took on Tesco after changing his name badge to his nickname 'Bruce Willis' landed him in hot water. Bruce said “Unfortunately, my bosses didn’t find it funny and asked me to remove it from my work badge straight away.

Bruce said “I am not one for losing an argument – so I changed it legally.”

to ‘Ash Horror Ghoulmore’ in a plight to increase custom to his horror
apparel website.

Since using his new name change, Ash has even encountered support
from as far overseas as the USA.

Princess-Rainbow.com (Manchester)

Twenty-four-year-old Claire Forshaw changed her name to Princess-Rainbow.com.

Princess said “I knew that if ever I got the chance I would change [my name] to a web domain, to hopefully become the first. My boyfriend has always told me it cost hundreds of pounds to do, so I just forgot about it. When I realized it actually cost as little as £10 my boyfriend said that Princess-Rainbow.com was ideal for me because I am mad on rainbows!”
