| Partnering With A Certified Professional Organizer® Adds ValueCertified Professional Organizers (CPO®) make great professional partners. Being a CPO® or collaborating with one opens up new possibilities with others like therapists, senior move managers, home & real estate stagers, & records managers.
By: BCPO “Therapists are often asked to do things beyond our scope of practice,” says Jim Shotwell, LISW, Director of Enhancement Center in Rio Rancho, NM. “Finding someone with the appropriate expertise to work collaboratively with is important. The best way to feel comfortable is to know that person has an additional level of certification that shows they have been trained in the ethical issues of their industry. This lends confidence in the person’s professional abilities.” Nan Hayes, president of MoveSeniors, has this to say about the CPO® designation, “Accreditation is the tool that turns an industry into a profession. By establishing a recognized credential, organizations help consumers identify qualified resources, which is especially important in a developing service such as organizing. We immediately recognize that individual as a true professional who is working to improve their skills and increase their level of professionalism.” The computer-based, 2 hour CPO® exam can be scheduled any time October 1 through 30, 2008. Any professional who meets the minimum requirements may take the exam, which is widely available throughout the United States, Canada and other countries. For example, home and real estate stagers, senior move managers, records managers and other related specialists may qualify. The Board of Certification for Professional Organizers (BCPO®) is the self-governing, independent certifying body formed to recognize and raise industry standards, practices and ethics through independent certification. The CPO® exam is given during designated times via computer at testing sites around the world.
