The Ultimate “What If” Question

Aug. 6, 2008 - PRLog -- Death and disease are subjects that people prefer not to discuss but it is interesting to see how one would act when confronted with the ultimate “what if” question.

In a recent survey, over 1,500 Canadians were asked, “If you had to have a terrible disease, which one would it be?”

Those surveyed were given a list of diseases to choose from. The list included: Alzheimer's, cancer, cerebral palsy, hepatitis, HIV, lupus, malaria, multiple sclerosis, and others.

Although some people found it difficult to answer this question, the results were unexpected.

Surprisingly, 15.4 % responded that cancer would be the disease of choice, while the least favorable diseases were cerebral palsy (7.2%) and multiple sclerosis (8.2%).  Diseases that effect ones ability to function, were the least preferred as opposed to serious internal illnesses.

The results were:
·Cancer – 15.4%
·Other – 15.4%
·Malaria – 13.2%
·Alzheimer’s – 12.3%
·Hepatitis – 10.2%
·Lupus – 9.0%
·HIV – 8.4%
·Multiple Sclerosis – 8.2%
·Cerebral Palsy – 7.2%
