The Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation announces the dates for the annual Christmas Tour of Homes and Colonial Dinner for 2008. The Tour is set for December 12/ 13, with at least ten fine private historic homes open to the public.

July 28, 2008 - PRLog -- The Tour takes place on Friday evening and Saturday, December 12 and 13, with at least ten Antebellum, Victorian and Craftsman house open for tours in this once-a-year event. Washington's three fine museums also open to visitors as part of the Tour admission.

Washington, Georgia, is a unique town, an untouched gem of Georgia history.  Unscathed by the War between the States, but right in the middle of Civil War history (Jefferson Davis signed and announced the articles dissolving the Confederate States of America in Washington in the Spring of 1865), Washington has more Antebellum homes and buildings than any other city in Georgia.  Many of them, not open to the public any other time, will be open for the Christmas Tour of Homes.

Virginia Lee King, in charge of this year's Tour, said today:

“This event has been the feature event of the Christmas season in Washington, Georgia for many years, and this year's Tour will be better than ever!  We have a number of outstanding private homes opening their doors to the public, most of which haven't been on any house tour before this Christmas Tour.

“It shapes up as an enchanting weekend in Historic Washington for the annual Christmas Tour and Dinner!  The weekend begins Friday evening with a romantic Candlelight Tour of Antebellum and Victorian Washington.  Stroll down our lovely streets and visit private homes dressed for the season and warmed by candlelight.

“On Saturday, tour the private homes and museums included in our Town & Country Tour.  Enhance your experience with a ticket to our Champagne reception and multi-course Colonial Dinner graciously served in one of our elegant historic homesaround town.  The dinner homes are not on the regular Tour, so you can add another historical gem to your itinerary.”

Washington offers a charming variety of Antebellum Bed and Breakfast Inns, an historical hotel, and  motel accommodations to meet every taste.
