Cancer support - New internet soap

2b Acting is using the success of their new internet soap to raise awareness of cancer and the work of Macmillan Cancer Support.

July 7, 2008 - PRLog -- 2b Acting, the Leeds based Theatre and online Video production company, has
made a dramatic change to the plot of the new series of their successful internet
soap Today & Tomorrow to help raise awareness of cancer and the work of
organisations, such as Macmillan Cancer Support.
The change was a heart felt reaction to a suggestion from the actor James Marshall
who plays the part of Ray Saunders in the show. James and his family are currently
coping with the diagnosis of his one year old daughter who is suffering from Wilm's
tumour, a cancerous tumour of the kidney.
“Having shot 9 of the 15 episodes of Series 2 it was a challenge to include a new plot
to do justice to James’ suggestion but the team felt it was worth doing”, says the
series producer and director David Jones, “The soap delivers fast pace storylines in
each of the 10 minutes episodes so it will be interesting to see the reaction to how we
have tackled this subject when the series is shown.” The new storyline attempts to
reflect how those affected by this devastating news cope and the consequences that
can arise from misinformation and misunderstandings.
James says ‘”I am pleased to be involved in something that acknowledges how
grateful we are to those who have really helped us and it would be great if this
produced tangible benefits to say a thank you to the charities and all those involved.”
Today & Tomorrow became the region’s first internet weekly soap shown by ITV
Local Yorkshire in January this year. ITV Local Yorkshire Channel Manager Mark
Waddington is looking forward to showing the second series of the soap. He says,
“It’s incredibly brave of 2b Acting to attempt something like this and shows great
initiative. We’re always on the lookout for creative people who are prepared to take
risks”.
2b Acting is different to other production companies in that they established with the
specific purpose of creating acting opportunities for local talent. The ability to utilise
this talent as a vehicle to support the work of charities is seen by them as an added
bonus.
