Follow on Google News | DCRE Labs to host first ever ASL Video Podcast ProjectNew technologies allow Deaf to enjoy Podcasting, discuss ADA issues
By: DCRE Labs Subscribers to the new ASL video podcast will see a series of short (5-10 minute) video segments which are signed, captioned and have a voice-over for maximum accessibility. "We're very excited about the potential for this service", said Dan Chaney, president of DCRE Labs. "During our design phase, we focused exclusively on providing a service for the Deaf community. However, the end result is something that can be used by the Deaf, by ASL students and interpreters and the hearing alike. The combination of the signers, the captioning and the voice overs makes it useful to a broad audience." Transcripts of the show are also available on the website at http://ASL.DisabilityLawLowdown.Com. The video podcasts will be simultaneously published at the website, via iTunes and through YouTube to provide maximum availability and bandwidth. The hosts for the ASL Disability Law Lowdown video podcast are native Deaf signers Danny Warthling and AJ Roupp. They will provide the latest information about disability rights and obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as other disability-related topics. Subscription is free and RSS feeds are available to automatically download shows to video iPods, computers, phones and other video-capable devices. The Disability Business Technical Assistance Centers (DBTAC) are a national network of ten ADA Centers across the country, offering technical assistance and training in the Americans with Disabilities Act and other disability-related laws. Two of the ten centers, the Southwest DBTAC located in Houston, TX and the Rocky Mountain DBTAC located in Colorado Springs, CO sponsored the ASL Podcast portion of the Disability Law Lowdown Project.
