Belly Pilates, Inc., founder Kelly McBride, the area’s first and only Specialist and Master Teacher of prenatal and postpartum Pilates, recently joined the team of top-notch instructors at Body Precision Pilates Studio in Rosemont. Belly Pilates is dedicated to providing individual Pilates instruction for pregnant women and recovering mothers.

A certified Pilates instructor, McBride teaches a unique and comprehensive prenatal exercise program that addresses the needs of pregnant women from the first trimester through labor.  Using the Pilates method of exercise, her program gently and safely prepares a woman’s body for the rigors of labor while re-aligning her body for successful birthing.  Overall, her method can help dispel the mysteries and myths surrounding pregnancy and exercise by teaching techniques that benefit both mother and baby.

“As the mother of three children, I know from experience that a woman’s postpartum body is different than it was before she had children,” McBride says.  “Imbalances can occur due to the shift in her postural alignment, such as weak abdominal muscles, back pain, incontinence and pelvic instability.  The goal of the postpartum program is to assist the mother as she heals from the trauma of birth.”

McBride’s exercise methods rebuild the body’s strength from the inside out, beginning just hours after delivery.  Mothers are guided through Pilates-based exercises designed to close abdominal muscles, realign the spine and rehabilitate the pelvic floor.

She works individually with her clients, allowing for more time to address issues that cannot be addressed in a large group atmosphere.

“I take a focused approach to exercise for each individual client,” she says.  “What is beneficial for one woman may not work as well for another.”

McBride completed a Comprehensive Pilates Certification Program and earned Prenatal and Postpartum Pilates Specialist Certification from the Center for Women’s Fitness (TCWF).  She also apprenticed under Master teacher, Carolyne Anthony, founder of TCWF, to become a Master Teacher of Prenatal and Postpartum Pilates.
In addition to her sessions at Body Precision, McBride partners with The Birth Center in Bryn Mawr, where she offers a small group prenatal mat/ball Pilates class.

Body Precision Pilates Studio, which is where McBride started her Pilates career, was founded in 1995 and was the first fully equipped Pilates studio on the Main Line.  The studio was voted “Best of Mainline Life 2006” and is a 2007 winner of Fox 29’s “myfoxphilly.com Hot List” award. The studio is located at 28 Garrett Avenue in Rosemont.  For more information about Body Precision visit the studio’s website at www.bodyprecision.com.
