Lila Poonawalla Foundation (merit Cum Need Based Scholarships) 13th Year Of Scholarship

Lila poonawalla foundation (merit cum need based scholarships) 13th year of scholarship

May 3, 2008 - PRLog -- The Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF) was started in 1996. It is the 13th Year of the Foundation. Since its inception a total number of 385 girls have received the scholarship.

Since its inception in 1996,  every year has been very special and important from the point of view of what the Lila Poonawalla Foundation has accomplished. This year the Foundation in keeping with its vision of reaching as many needy girls as possible, has decided to encompass Pune District which will include Ambegaon, Baramati, Bhor, Daund, Haveli, Indapur, Junnar, Khed, Maval, Pune, Purander, Shirur & Velha.   in an endeavour to reach Rural Pune and be available to girls who could  take advantage of this opportunity.

In the year 2005 the Foundation had introduced ‘Special Local Scholarships’ for needy girls whose annual family income is less than two lakh rupees and who have secured between 50% to 60% marks in 10th Std., 12th Std. and Graduation. The Foundation is very keen to help the deserving girls for their higher education and it believes that though these deprived girls could not secure first class due to their economic conditions they still have the potential to pursue higher education.

This year we extend our support  and reach out to deserving girls in rural areas in Pune District. To achieve this objective, the Lila Poonawalla Foundation has decided that Girls coming from rural areas  though not fluent in the English language, would still be interviewed in the colloquial Marathi language, as the Foundation’s aim is to tap the inherent potential of the candidate to begin with and then polish them with Grooming programmes, Personality   development workshops, Spoken English Courses. Acquiring new skills will enhance the girls’ confidence and make them confident to face new challenges.

The Foundation has also decided to hold Training Programmes in these rural areas, provided the representation is substantial. The Foundation will also arrange for overnight staying facilities for girls attending the Foundation Programmes  in Pune from these rural areas, as well as give travel allowances, to make it possible for them.  We have targeted to extend Scholarships at least to 15 to 20 girls, depending on the member applications received.

This  new Criteria of including Pune District in the Scholarships this year will signal a new era for the Foundation in addressing Rural India and bringing it into the mainstream of development.
