April 11, 2008 - PRLog -- Cumberland University has named nationally recognized artist and author Ted Rose to the position of dean of the CU School of Music & the Arts.

"Ted Rose will undoubtedly move the Cumberland University School of Music & the Arts toward national prominence. He brings a wealth of experience and vision to the position, and his ideas about the school's future are in-line with our own -- growth in the music, theatre and fine arts programs at Cumberland with an emphasis on the use of technology and digital arts," CU President Dr. Harvill C. Eaton said.

Former director of David Lipscomb University's School of Fine and Performing Arts, Rose most recently served as director of educational research for Hurst, Texas-based Third Mind Publishing. He has several publications to his credit, including the top-selling secondary education drawing textbook in the United States, "Discovering Drawing." Rose earned his bachelor of arts degree from David Lipscomb University, his master in education from Edinboro State University and his master of fine arts from the University of Tennessee.

As an artist, Rose has participated in six international exhibitions and received more than 50 awards for his work. His artwork is displayed in over 300 private collections and more than 100 corporate collections, including the collections of several Fortune 500 companies. He has also worked extensively with fine arts organizations as an instructor and board member. In addition, Rose has served as keynote speaker for state art conferences in Nevada, Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana.

"I am looking forward to joining Cumberland University as dean of their school of music and the arts," Rose commented. "I was attracted to the administration's vision for the University, the school of music and the arts and their collective future. The University's planned expansion to campus facilities -- including the fine arts facilities -- coupled with their commitment to new technologies, made the proposition to lead the CU School of Music & the Arts a very attractive one."
