Feb. 19, 2008 - PRLog -- A study by researchers at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children proves the hospital’s Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia curriculum improves the reading skills of children with significant reading difficulties.

Researchers from the hospital’s Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders (http://www.tsrhc.org/default.asp?contentID=8) evaluated the treatment effects of the Take Flight curriculum on students attending TSRHC dyslexia labs and dyslexia programs (http://www.tsrhc.org/default.asp?contentID=8)used in schools. The research proved children receiving Take Flight instruction showed significant growth in all areas of reading.

Take Flight is a research-based curriculum designed to enable students with dyslexia to achieve and maintain better word recognition, reading fluency and comprehension. It builds on the success of previous dyslexia intervention programs (http://www.tsrhc.org/default.asp?contentID=184) developed by the hospital’s staff and contains the five components of effective reading instruction supported by the National Reading Panel and mandated by the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

Take Flight is available to educators trained to teach students with dyslexia, and the seven book curriculum is used in school districts across the state and the nation. Since its publishing in 2006, more than 70 public and private school districts in Texas have adopted the Take Flight dyslexia curriculum (http://www.tsrhc.org/default.asp?contentID=184).
