ShalomVeg, the first online community for Jewish vegetarians and animal activists was launched in late December, providing learning resources and networking tools for a growing movement of "ethical eaters."

Jan. 13, 2008 - PRLog -- ShalomVeg.com, the first comprehensive online community for Jewish vegetarians and animal activists went online in December 2007.  The site was created for the growing Jewish veggie community to learn about relevant issues, network, share and become active in one convenient location.

ShalomVeg appears in the midst of a growing movement in the Jewish community around ethical eating and "eco-kashrut", which examines the connections between our eating habits and the Jewish imperative of "tikkun olam," or healing the world.  Many Jewish leaders believe that it is more important than ever that we make necessary changes in our lifestyles and eating choices as part of this "healing," and many of these leaders have spoken in support of a vegetarian diet.

ShalomVeg was created to provide the resources to help bring these ideas into the open, and strengthen the Jewish vegetarian community.

Users of the site can read a growing collection of articles and essays about Jewish views on food, animals, ethics, environmental and social justice, spirituality and other relevant issues.  The site also contains constantly updated veggie and animal rights news, a user created recipe database, forums, classified ads, and blogs.  Members can submit their own writing to share, and can comment on and discuss all aspects of the site.  Registered users can also create a profile and meet others through the interactive networking features including instant messaging, and "friend lists."
