This class covers the basic concepts in managing the flow of materials in a supply chain from suppliers to customers.  “Basics of Supply Chain Management” introduces supply chain concepts and emphasizes basic terminology but it also covers relationships among activities in the supply chain.  The class provides an introduction for supply chain management personnel and gives basic definitions for planning and controlling the flow of materials into, through, and out of an organization. It explains fundamental relationships among the activities that occur in the supply chain from suppliers to customers.

BSCM is divided into four major areas:
·   Businesswide concepts for satisfying customer expectations
·   Determining and managing customer demand
·   Managing the transformation processes used to satisfy customer demand
·   Managing the supply activity supporting transformation processes

Specific topics include
·   Introduction to Supply Chain Management
·   Forecasting demand
·   Master Planning of Production
·   Material Requirements Planning
·   Capacity Planning and Controlling Production Activity
·   Fundamentals of Inventory

This class is an excellent opportunity for people who have recently joined the supply chain or operations management fields to get a good understanding of the supply chain and is also a chance for more experienced personnel to get an understanding of areas which may affect or be affected by their own role.

The course will be led by Karen Startzman.  Karen’s experience has given her a broad understanding of the supply chain, evaluation of capacity and manufacturing constraints, MRP, S&OP process and JIT principles.  She is currently Master Scheduler at Libbey Incorporated responsible for coordinating and submitting production work orders on finished goods for domestic after-processing operations in Ohio and Louisiana.  Ms. Startzman was previously responsible for supply chain activities associated with the the Company’s internationally owned businesses in Mexico, Netherlands and Portugal, and third party suppliers in Colombia and China.  Her education includes a Master of Business Administration from Heidelberg College, Tiffin, OH, Bachelors of Business Administration Magna Cum Laude from The University of Toledo, Toledo, OH and most recently APICS CPIM Certification.
