Founder Launches Open-Access Grief and Legacy Resource Hub to Educate Consumers

New open-access initiative by U.S. Navy veteran Gabriel Killian provides free grief, legacy, and funeral-planning resources to educate families, promote consumer protection, and increase awareness of funeral rights.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Nov. 10, 2025 - PRLog -- Families coping with loss often face more than grief; they face confusion, hidden costs, and uncertainty about their rights. U.S. Navy veteran and educator Gabriel Killian has launched Memorial Merits, a public education project devoted to grief literacy, funeral-planning guidance, and consumer protection.

The new open-access archive on Zenodo — https://zenodo.org/communities/memorialmerits/ — offers free educational papers and checklists that help families understand the FTC Funeral Rule, recognize fair pricing, and preserve stories through guided legacy journaling. Each publication is permanently hosted through Zenodo's CERN-based system, ensuring that accurate information remains available to everyone at no cost.

"When people are grieving, they shouldn't have to worry about fine print or hidden fees," said Killian. "My goal is to give families peace of mind through knowledge, not upselling."

Readers can explore the full grief and planning library, along with recent studies and downloadable guides, at https://memorialmerits.com/.
